A couple was arrested and charged with child abuse related charges after they allegedly chained a little boy to a radiator for two weeks, according to police reports in New Jersey.

A New Jersey boy told police that his mother and her boyfriend chained him by the ankle to a radiator for two weeks.

Florence M. Pollard, 31, and Brian L. Craig, 29, were arrested on Monday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal restraint.

“We are grateful that the child had the opportunity to escape and report what has been happening to him in order to stop this couple and stop his suffering," Camden Police Chief J. Scott Thomson said.

Pollard called police to her home on Monday at 3:35 pm to report that her 10-year-old son had disappeared.

Shortly thereafter, the couple's neighbor found the boy a few blocks away. The boy appeared malnourished, clung to a fence and told the neighbor that he did not want to go home, so the neighbor called the police.

The boy told police his mother tied him to a radiator with a metal chain in his mother's room as punishment and was forced to sleep on the floor without blankets. He also said that his hands were tied with plastic ties.

The boy also told police that he was forced to sleep regularly ankle chained to a radiator in the room of his mother and that his hands were tied by wire on occasion.

"To treat a child in this way is inhumane," Sergeant Janell Simpson, supervisor of the Special Victims Unit of the department, said. "He could have been seriously injured or killed if this continued,” he said.

Craig and Pollard are being held in the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail each.
The boy and his five siblings, two sisters and three brothers ranging from 7 months to 11-years-old, are in state custody.
