Nigeria’s D’Tigress berthed in the quarter-final of the Afrobasket 2015
tournament on-going in Yaounde, Cameroon, after they defeated their
Algerian counterparts 79-49 in their last group game.
Algeria showed
some spirit through Sarah Nemmouchi, after trailing the West Africans
in the opening quarter, rallying to an 18-16 lead, before surrendering
the first half 30-21, thanks to Olayinka Sanni’s hard work.
In the second quarter, Nemmouchi came good for her team, but the Algerians could not keep the momentum going for long.
Algeria’s marauding play threatened to expose Nigeria’s perimeter
defence as they reaped 15 points from the quarter, but the West Africans
regrouped in time to clinch their fourth straight win.
As the team
heads into the quarter final, with just a loss against Angola four days
ago, Coach Scott Nnaji heads into the last eight with a four-game
winning streak.
