Egypt: Iranian Practices in Gulf Affects Egyptian National Security - FM

In a TV interview, Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi said that despite the fact that Egyptian-Iranian relations are deeply-rooted, Iran's practices in the Gulf region affects Egypt's national security.
He pointed out that the difference between the two countries during the former regime was based on Sunni and Shiite considerations but the problem between the two sides in the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak was due to national security considerations.
He asserted that the new Iranian government showed some positive attitude in dealing with the Gulf countries though not tangible until now.
He made reference that Gulf countries sent representatives to Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new president while Egypt didn't.
He added however that in case Egypt would start any dialogue with Iran, it will be objective and frank dialogue and will keep in mind the interests of both Egypt and the Gulf countries. He further noted that Egypt will not cooperate with Iran in a way that would harm the Gulf interests.
